Jamie Whincup, Team Principal, Red Bull Ampol Racing considers this livery the best in the team’s history

As the 2023 Supercars season draws closer excited Red Bull Ampol Racing and Shane van Gisbergen fans have been chomping at the bit to see how the team’s livery would look on the new Gen 3 Camaro. Now they know, with the team revealing its eye-catching 2023 Supercars Championship livery, that will feature on the team’s two Gen3 Chevrolet Camaros, designed by renowned motorsport livery designer Peter Hughes

There has been some speculation also to Shane van Gisbergen’s future as the Kiwi driver is in hot demand for a number of high profile race series around the world. He has said his future will largely depend on what he thinks of the Gen 3 car and if that will ensure exciting racing for him and fans alike. For now however, the team will charge into the season with an unchanged driver lineup, with the three-time Champion and 2022 Adelaide 500 winner Broc Feeney.

Both drivers’ first running of their new Gen3 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1’s was held at Queensland Raceway on February 14, with both cars clocking up a combined 650 kilometers of on-track testing in an eye catching test livery.

The team will also enter 2023 with an unchanged race engineering line up, with Andrew Edwards working alongside van Gisbergen in the #97 Camaro, and Martin Short continuing as Feeney’s race engineer in the #88 Camaro. Both engineers will continue to work under the guidance of the team’s Technical Director, Jeromy Moore, and Team Manager, Mark Dutton.

Two further test days will be February 22 at Sydney Motorsport Park, and 27-28 February at Queensland Raceway before they look to defending the Championship in the season proper.

SVG, is a fan of the new look.

“I think the new cars look cool, especially the shape of it. The colours on the car are quite a big change for us this year as the last few years have been quite similar. The blue and red, mixed together with the white roof looks tough.”

“The design and engineering team at Triple Eight have done a huge amount of work for the category along with a couple of other teams, but our mechanics have also done some crazy hours the last couple of months. The whole team has done a great job to get these cars ready the last couple of years. When we rolled out at our first test day, the cars ran faultlessly, so that was awesome and a testament to their work.” Said van Gisbergen.

Former Champion-turned co-owner and Team Principal, Jaimie Whincup sees the new generation cars as a massively exciting era for the sport. The series has been working on Gen3 project for three years and while roll-out was postponed with Covid disruptions, he feels it’s the right time to evolve the Supercars product and his team has played a huge part in the wider development.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the people at Triple Eight. Everyone watching at home will see two cars on track, but the hours, dedication, blood, sweat and tears that have gone into getting those cars on track and giving the drivers the opportunity to showcase that work, it’s without doubt Triple Eights biggest achievement – second to none. It’s something we’re so proud of and will be a part of our legacy.

“The cars look great. I might be biased, but I think it’s the best-looking livery we’ve had. I think if you’re not excited to see that first in Newcastle, then potentially motorsport isn’t for you. Every team has had a big reset, and no one knows what’s going to happen around a crazy little street track. Debuting new cars with less aerodynamics, bigger horsepower, and lighter weight – there’s so many unknows and that’s what sport’s all about.” Said Whincup.

Round 1 of the 2023 Supercars Championship begins on the streets of Newcastle on 10-12 March.
