Porsche unveil new GT3 as the model turns 25

Porsche has revealed the next-generation 911 GT3, once again raising their own benchmark and tying the reveal in with the 25th anniversary of the iconic GT3 nameplate.

First unveiled in March 1999 at the Geneva International Motor Show, the GT3 was created to bring a measure of Porsche’s incredible motorsport developments to the road for consumers to enjoy.

Andreas Preuninger, Project Manager GT Vehicles said “In the 911 GT3, consistent lightweight construction meets outstanding driving dynamics and unmistakable design.

“Both the racing and road versions carry the Porsche DNA at their core and reflect the company’s motorsport experience. A bit of every victory from racetracks all over the world is contained in every GT3.”

To mark its 25th anniversary, Porsche revealed the updated 992.2 versions of the GT3 and GT3 Touring simultaneously.

The models come with minor tweaks designed to build on the already phenomenal formula produced when the 992 911 GT3 released in 2021.

This includes shorter gear ratios for a more aggressive drive, lighter engine internals (taken from the GT3 RS) and optimised damper tuning, all combining for a balanced and aggressive driving experience.

Styling has been updated, with sharpened front and rear ends offering increased downforce and better airflow through a host of aerodynamic trickery. The rear wing of the GT3 also features new angled endplates.

Customers can now spec the Weissach package for the first time on the winged GT3. This gets you a slew of chassis components and exterior in carbon fibre, including the anti-roll bar and roof. A carbon fibre roll-cage and magnesium wheels can also be optioned with the package.

On the Touring, Porsche is offering the Leichtbau package instead of the Weissach package. Once again, chassis components and the roof come in carbon fibre, but with the Leichtbau, the roof stays painted in the exterior colour. Cars optioned with the 6-speed manual transmission will also come with the shortened gear lever from the 911 S/T.

Rear seats can also be optioned for the first time on the GT3 Touring.
