Porsche claims record with world's longest ice drift

Porsche has added another world record to its tally, with the Taycan GTS claiming the Guinness World Records title for the longest continuous vehicle drift on ice by an EV.

Behind the wheel, Porsche Experience instructor Jens Richter completed 132 laps in ‘controlled oversteer’, staying sideways for 17.503 kilometers over 46 minutes.

The record attempt took place on January 14, 2025, at the Porsche Arctic Center in Levi, Finland—150 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. Conditions were far from ideal, with the ice track deteriorating faster than expected due to the continuous load of a drifting Taycan. The team had to abort the first attempt after 11 kilometers, but a switch to shorter spikes and a drop in ice temperatures as night fell set them up for success.

Richter expertly maintained the drift using only throttle and steering inputs, smashing the previous record of 14.809 kilometers. "The Taycan has once again proven its sideways-driving capabilities—even with all-wheel drive," he said. "Its balanced performance and precision handling make it incredibly controllable, even in extreme conditions."

The record was officially verified by Guinness World Records adjudicator Carl Saville, who presented the certificate to Richter and Christian Lehwald, Managing Director of the Porsche Arctic Center.

This marks the fourth Guinness World Record for the Taycan, adding to previous feats that include the greatest altitude change by an EV and the fastest speed driven inside a building.
