Motorsport Preview: 10 drivers racing across 3 continents

Australia

GT Festival is heading to Sydney this weekend after an epic first round at Phillip Island. Get ready for racing under the lights at Sydney Motorsport Park as our GT World Challenge Australia and Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia drivers take the track.

Drivers Brendon Leitch and Ryan Wood will be taking part in the GT World Challenge in the pro-am categories. Brendon Leitch, driving alongside Tim Miles, will be behind the wheel of the #07 Dayle ITM Team MPC Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II. Ryan Wood will be driving with fellow Kiwi Steve Brooks in the #88 Team MPC Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II.

William Exton got the perfect start to the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Series Australia, securing pole position and dominating Races 1 and 2 to claim the wins. Leading the championship by 12 points, it will be a tight battle throughout the season with fellow Kiwi drivers hot on his tail. William will be running in car #42 for the Tractor Repairs & Spares/TekworkX team.

North America

After a short break, the glitz and glamour of Formula 1 is heading to the streets of Miami this weekend. This star-studded event will be the first round in North America for the season. Ryan Yardley is back in his Porsche for the Carrera Cup North America at the Miami Grand Prix. After a great first round at Sebring in March, Ryan heads into this weekend in second place overall, just 5 points off the lead. His quick pace will be an advantage on the street circuit.

IndyCar and Indy NXT are in Birmingham, Alabama, for the Children's of Alabama Grand Prix. Racing at Barber Motorsports Park, often referred to as "The Augusta National of Motorsports." Three Giltrap Group Motorsport drivers will be on track – Scott Dixon in car #9 for IndyCar, and Callum Hedge in car #17 and Liam Sceats in car #30 for Indy NXT. Fellow Kiwi Scott McLaughlin had back-to-back victories at Barber in 2023 and 2024.

NASCAR returns to Texas Motor Speedway for the Wurth 400 Presented by LIQUI MOLY. The 1.5-mile track located in Fort Worth, Texas, began hosting NASCAR races in 1997. Texas Motor Speedway is an asphalt oval with twenty degrees of banking in Turns 1 & 2, twenty-four degrees in Turns 3 & 4, and five degrees in the straightaways. Shane van Gisbergen looks to improve on his 29th-place finish in Talladega last week.

Europe

For the first time, Monaco will host a double-header of back-to-back Formula E rounds. Mitch Evans looks to defend his title from the 2024 Monaco E-Prix in his #9 Jaguar Racing car. The iconic street circuit brings action-packed racing with overtakes in abundance. “It’s one of the best races of the year, and a track where we have been really competitive previously – not least last season,” said Mitch Evans.
