Kia have revealed new details on how the upcoming EV3 achieves an impressive 600km of range (WLTP) from its 81.4kWh battery. Wind tunnel development has left the sleek electric hatchback with a drag coefficient of just 0.26Cd, but the most significant improvements come from Kia’s new one-pedal drive system.

i-Pedal 3.0 is Kia’s latest intelligent regenerative braking system, allowing the driver to adjust the level of regeneration while still maintaining full one-pedal drive. This means you’ll be able to have gentle regeneration resistance, but still be able to come to a complete stop without touching the brake pedal.

As a nice addition, i-Pedal 3.0 also works in reverse.

Autonomous regen is another star addition to the Kia EV3 with the Smart Regenerative System. The EV3 utlises its sensors to scan the road ahead for cars, speed bumps, roundabouts and can apply regenerative braking autonomously to slow the vehicle, even to a complete stop if necessary.

As if this wasn’t enough, ‘simultaneous heat absorption system’ recycles heat from the air outside of the vehicle to further optimize efficiency.

All this efficiently generated power can also be used to charge and power appliances, from iPads to coffee machines, using the EV3’s Vehicle-to-Load capability.

The EV3 will be launched in New Zealand later this year. Contact Giltrap Kia for more information.
