Lexus confirm the LBX Morizo RR is coming to NZ
After teasing us with the concept, Lexus have confirmed that the LBX Morizo RR is coming. This new model, named after Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda’s racing alter ego, Morizo, will be built on similar architecture to the highly acclaimed Toyota GR Yaris.
The LBX Morizo RR will have no trouble standing out in a cluttered compact-SUV market with its aggressive styling. A bold front grille, aggressive front and rear bumpers, and a wider track create a commanding presence on the road. The athletic stance and updated bodywork supports rather than contradicts the LBX’s refined exterior, hinting at the performance under the bonnet.
The LBX Morizo RR will come with the same 1.6L 3-cylinder turbocharged motor found in the GR Yaris, delivering 206kW and 390Nm in this application. The suspension and chassis have been finely tuned to offer sharp handling and a smooth ride, ensuring that the Morizo RR is as capable on winding roads as it is in the city.
The Morizo RR will also inherit the updated GR Yaris’ gearbox options, with both an 8-speed automatic and, much to many enthusiast’s delight, a 6-speed manual transmission on offer.
The LBX Morizo RR loses none of Lexus’ tradition of luxury. High-quality materials, including leather and brushed aluminium, are littered throughout the cabin. The driver-focused cockpit features the latest Lexus tech, with a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, and advanced driver-assistance features. The seating position has even been adjusted to allow the driver to sit lower in the car.
“The LBX Morizo RR is kind of a casual luxury, the car is as comfortable as my sneakers,” says Akio Toyoda, Chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation. “People think that big is luxury and small is economical. But that is not true. To me smaller cars are more fun to drive. This LBX is a special edition with more high performance. The 1.6L inline-three intercooled turbo engine delivers exhilarating torque and power. Fun to drive is not just about driving, it is the sound, the smell, all the ingredients.”
The Lexus LBX Morizo RR is new territory for the Japanese luxury brand, who’s performance specials are normally limited to V8 coupes. The LBX Morizo RR is expected to arrive at Lexus of Auckland City in February 2025.
