Audi's A6 goes electric
After it’s initial unveiling at the Shanghai Auto Show in 2021, the Audi A6 e-tron is finally a reality. As the second model Audi model on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), the A6 e-tron will carry the platform’s traits of performance, range, efficiency, and charging capabilities. Notably, it features a flat floor concept, a first for the platform.
Audi's Chairman of the Board, Gernot Döllner, highlights the significance of this launch: "The A6 e-tron is the first purely electric Audi model available as a Sportback and Avant. Its striking design enables the best aerodynamics in the portfolio and therefore greater efficiency. It will inspire enthusiasm for e-mobility with its long range of well over 700 kilometers and outstanding driving dynamics."
Design and Aerodynamics
The front of the A6 features slim daytime running lights and a wide grille, framed by a black mask that incorporates headlights, sensors, and air intakes. The roofline and pronounced quattro blisters give the car a muscular look. The Avant wagon variant stands out with its flat roofline and distinctive aluminum-look trim.
Aerodynamics are a key feature of the A6 e-tron, with the Sportback achieving a record-breaking cw value of 0.21, the best in Audi's history, while the Avant follows closely with a cw value of 0.24. Features like air curtains, a controllable cool-air intake, and optimized underbody components help achieve these impressive figures.
Performance
The A6 e-tron family offers a range of power options. The A6 e-tron performance boasts a system output of 270 kW (362 hp) with rear-wheel drive, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 210 km/h. The S6 e-tron ups the ante with a system output of 370 kW (496 hp) and quattro all-wheel drive, achieving 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 240 km/h.
The A6 e-tron also boasts impressive range and charging performance. With a 100 kWh lithium-ion battery, it offers up to 756 kilometers of range for the Sportback and up to 720 kilometers for the Avant.
Innovative Features
Inside, the A6 e-tron reflects Audi's new design philosophy with a focus on user-friendly technology and comfort. Depending on the equipment level, features can include second-generation virtual exterior mirrors, a panoramic glass roof that can become opaque at the touch of a button, and illuminated rings at the rear.
The interior is designed with a clean, high-contrast look, featuring a panoramic display that includes an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit and a 14.5-inch MMI touch display. The advanced infotainment system runs on Android Automotive OS, ensuring the latest updates and a wide range of apps are always available
With the A6 e-tron family, Audi is not only pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle design but also making a strong statement about the future of mobility. The combination of innovative features, impressive range, and powerful performance sets a new standard in the electric vehicle market.
