Following a blistering first race in challenging wet and dry conditions yesterday, Marco Giltrap and Chris Van der Drift have podiumed in race 2 to lock in the round win for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia championship.

In very different race conditions from the first race of the season the kiwi pairing battled high ambient temperatures and sweltering humidity to battle for a very well deserved second place in Race 2.

In the reverse grid, rolling start format, the Kiwis started from 18th, sharing the row with the very capable pairing of Johnathon Cecotto and Li Qiang from the TRT Racing stable.

Van der Drift took race start responsibility and wasted little time to get the drop on the field, by turn 2 he was already up five positions and by turn four was mid field. The veteran racer and defending Super Trofeo champ showing his vast skillset amongst a mixed pack of pro and amateur drivers.

By Lap 12, Van der Drift was holding well in P2, leaving Marco Giltrap the challenging task to maintain that track position on cold rubber. Giltrap had the pace over most of the field but just couldn’t catch Asian-based D1 Racing pro driver, Dan Wells, who ultimately took the win by 1.3 seconds.

But with a win and a P2 in the bag, the Kiwi duo would claim the round win and are undoubtedly be the pairing to beat as the series heads next to The Bend circuit in Adelaide on 09 - 11 June. Marco Giltrap will have a very busy dance card this year as he also contests Australia’s Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia Series.
