We could be supporting an all Kiwi driver line up for Jaguar TCS Racing in Formula E in 2024.

Jaguar TCS Racing have today announced that Mitch Evans will return to race for the British team from the 2024 season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship on a multi-year deal. Fellow Kiwi, Nick Cassidy, is strongly rumoured to join Evans as teammate.

New Zealander Mitch Evans has signed a multi-year contract locking in his future to Jaguar TCS Racing, 2024 will be Evan's eighth season with the team and extending their relationship means that Evans and Jaguar TCS Racing will be the longest driver and team pairing in Formula E history, providing further consistency for Jaguar as they chase the elusive Formula E Championship.

The announcement comes as past teammate, Sam Bird, departs the team following an underwhelming 2023 season and multiple on-track incidents that took Evan’s out of championship contention.

While at time of writing, a replacement for Bird is yet to be confirmed, there are strong rumours that Nick Cassidy is set to leave Envision racing and join Evans at Jaguar TCS Racing. Cassidy finished second in the Formula E championship just 2 points ahead of Evans.

If rumours are true, it’ll be a dream partnership for the two who have been close mates and racing rivals since the age of six.

Each started with karting and moving through the ranks to New Zealand’s Castrol Toyota racing series Evans claimed back-to-back Toyota Racing Series titles in 2010 and 2011, the latter season as team-mates with Cassidy at Giles Motorsport, before Cassidy went on to secure two TRS titles in 2012 and 2013.

The Jaguar / Evans partnership is also one of the most successful driver and team pairings since the inception of the all-electric World Championship.

“Having been with Jaguar TCS Racing since 2016, it was the natural choice to continue our successful partnership together. We’ve had some incredible moments over the last seven years and I’m looking forward to writing our next chapter together. I am proud to race for Jaguar and play my part with the team in JLR’s Reimagine strategy.” Said Evans

Evans made his debut the same year the team joined the all-electric World Championship – and was soon regarded as one of the most talented and fastest drivers in Formula E. In 2019, he translated this into his first race win for the team in Rome.

Together, Mitch and the team have formed a formidable pairing achieving 10 wins, 25 podiums, 8 fastest laps, 6 pole positions and 733 championship points over the last seven years.  Evans is one of the most successful drivers to have represented the iconic British Marque, joining legends of the sport including Norman Dewis, Stirling Moss and Mike Hawthorn to name a few.

The Kiwi couldn’t be more highly regarded by Team Principal, James Barclay.

“It’s an absolute pleasure to confirm that Mitch remains a key part of Jaguar TCS Racing for the 2024 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and beyond. Mitch has been one of the founding members of the team since Jaguar returned to racing in 2016 and is now one of the longest-serving drivers in Jaguar’s history. The fact that our future remains together for a new chapter is an accolade we are both proud of. Mitch has time and again demonstrated that he is one of the most talented drivers in the world, so we are pleased that our formidable partnership continues. I’m excited to build on the successes we have enjoyed to date and challenging for more championships together.”

The 2024 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will begin on 13 January 2024 in Mexico City, for the first of 17 rounds of exciting wheel-to-wheel racing on street circuits in the heart of the world’s cities.
