EV Servicing

Unlike petrol or diesel cars, electric vehicles don’t require an oil change. However, just like any vehicle an EV is susceptible to wear and tear damage and require a WOF (Warrant of Fitness) to ensure they are safe for New Zealand’s roads.

During an EV Service we’ll check all the standard service items like brakes, tires, fluids, wipers, cooling systems, suspension etc. In addition, our expert technicians will check the health and state of your EV’s high voltage battery system.

Giltrap technicians are trained to work safely on the high voltage systems in your EV. We inspect the cables and components that carry power throughout the car for damage and corrosion and ensure they are secured correctly.

Wheels & Tyres

Although an EV doesn’t have a combustion engine, the addition of large lithium-ion batteries makes EVs on average 30% heavier than traditional petrol-powered cars. This extra weight combined with greater acceleration speeds causes tyres to wear down more quickly. The tyres on an EV can wear out 20% faster than combustion counterparts. So, inspecting the tyres during a service is a must.

12 Volt Battery

Many EVs still come equipped with a regular 12-volt lead acid car battery. The standard car battery ensures critical systems like airbags and central locking are still operational in the event the main high voltage battery is disconnected or loses its charge.

Brakes pads

One advantage offered by electric vehicles is the ability to use regenerative breaking. EV’s can use electric motors to slow down the car and recover energy to charge the battery. Since electric cars use their motors to do most of the breaking, their brake pads tend to last longer. Still, these critical components that need to be inspected properly to ensure your vehicle can come to a safe stop.

Fluid check

Even though an EV doesn’t need engine oil there are still plenty of other fluid levels that need to be checked, such as the coolant, brake fluid and power steering fluid. Factory specific fluid changes at the required service intervals can help prevent expensive failures and ensure your vehicles longevity.
