Volkswagen reveal all-new Tayron 7-Seater

Volkswagen have unveiled the middle-child in their SUV line-up, the Tayron; a 7-seater SUV that sits between the Tiguan and Toureg, filling the gap left by the outgoing Tiguan Allspace.

The Tayron is a nameplate familiar to the Chinese market, but now Volkswagen have completely redeveloped the mid-size SUV and taken it global.

“The new Tayron is a bona fide Volkswagen: its quality is reflected in every detail; it is comfortable and practical for everyday life, and it is available with a wide range of drive systems. With this new Volkswagen SUV, we are further expanding our range in a growing segment and closing the gap between our best-seller, the Tiguan, and our luxury SUV, the Touareg. I am convinced that the Tayron will make its mark and be well received by our customers.” Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars.

The Tayron debuts with design language familiar to that of the all-new Volkswagen Tiguan, with a proud front end dominated by a large grille and an illuminated Volkswagen logo. The rear is a similar story, featuring the full-length illuminated cross bar and logo also seen on the Tiguan.

What clearly distinguishes the Tayron from its sibling is a length of 4.8m, compared to the 4.5m of the Tiguan. This extra length enables the Tayron to have optional three-row seating that is its headline feature.

The entry level ‘Life’ trim of the Tayron comes with an impressive list of standard features, including three-zone climate control, customizable ambient lighting, a digital instrument cluster. A 12.5inch infotainment screen also comes as standard, featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Volkswagen’s ChatGPT integration.

The Tayron will come with 10 powertrains available globally, including two eHybrids offering over 100km of electric-only range and 850km on single tank of fuel. Diesel and petrol options will also be available, but we’re still awaiting confirmation of what powertrains will be coming to New Zealand.
