Škoda reveal hardcore Enyaq racer

Yes, you read the title right. Škoda Motorsport have taken the Enyaq, the very safe, very practical fully electric SUV, and used it as a basis to develop a track-only race-car concept with inspiration from the Czech brand’s rally program.

Seen as a pilot-project for future production models, the Enyaq RS Race pushes the boundaries with a long list of aerodynamic, technical and drivetrain enhancements; all with a focus on sustainability.

“The Škoda Enyaq RS Race was developed completely in-house by Škoda Motorsport. Based on the Enyaq Coupé RS production model, the car features a distinctive design with strong racing DNA, enhanced aerodynamics and excellent acceleration. In terms of sustainable solutions, the new concept car also serves as a pilot project for future innovations in series production. The biocomposite parts have led to a significant weight reduction, and we are trialling them in motorsport, including in the current Škoda Fabia RS Rally2, with a view to future implementation.” - Johannes Neft, Škoda Auto Board Member for Technical Development.

Biocomposite parts incorporating flax fibres have been used liberally throughout the exterior and interior of the Enyaq Race, including the front and rear bumper and majority of the aerodynamic additions. Not only does this push the boundaries of sustainable performance, it also results in a significant weight reduction to the tune of 316kg down to a total weight of 1946kg – not bad for a fully electric SUV.

The aggressive aerodynamic focus results in a near fully redesigned exterior. This includes the introduction of a big rear wing, winglets in key areas, and wider fenders with elements that relieve pressure in the wheel well and redirect airflow around the car.

The interior is full racecar, taking direct inspiration from the Škoda Fabia Rally2 car. Stripped out, fully roll-caged with harnessed bucket-seats, and with no rear seats, this is far from the family wagon it started out as.

The chassis has also received significant enhancements, with high performance carbon ceramic brakes, fully adjustable sport suspension, and even a rally-type hydraulic handbrake.

The powertrain remains the same as the standard Enyaq RS, with two electric motors producing a combined output of 250 kW with an 82kWh battery. However, the reduced weight and chassis enhancements do result in a sub-5 second 0-100km/h time.

Unfortunately, you can’t buy the Škoda Enyaq RS Race, but seeing as it is being positioned as a pilot program for future models, a production Skoda track-special might not be as far away as we think.
