Lexus has digitally debuted the facelifted RX SUV ahead of a fourth-quarter introduction.
Revisions include slimmer headlights with ‘blade-scan technology’ which should offer faster switches between high- and low-beam headlights, subtle body changes including “revised character lines” and new bumpers fore and aft.
There are new 18- and 20-inch wheel options, slightly different LED taillights and more colours to choose from.
Tech has been improved too, the RX now offering lane tracing assist and road sign recognition available as part of the latest Lexus Safety System + active safety suite. The cabin gets a new touchscreen infotainment system debuting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The ergonomically vexing touchpad is still going strong so no loss of face there.
The third row of seats can be moved through two seating positions, which Lexus says gives “greater leg space when required".
Dynamic improvements come courtesy of redesigned shock absorbers, which are equipped with a new friction control device that reduces high frequency vibration caused by tiny road surface imperfections.
New stabiliser bars, as well as laser screw welding, spot welding and increased use of high-strength adhesives have increased rigidity which should give faster response to steering inputs, and better ride quality, amongst other handling benefits.
Power still comes from either a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a 3.5-litre petrol V6 and a self-charging hybrid 3.5-litre V6.
The new RX will dot down later this year, when price and final specifications will be confirmed.
