Geely Announces Strategic Partnership with Giltrap Group

Geely Auto, the world’s fastest-growing car maker, has announced a landmark partnership with the Giltrap Group in New Zealand, completing an essential piece of its global vision, with the first New Zealand locations to open in 2025.

Geely Auto joins Giltrap Group’s broader Geely portfolio, which already includes the established brands of Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus. By integrating Geely Auto into its lineup, the Giltrap Group significantly strengthens its strategic relationship with Geely.

“Giltrap Group is proud to partner with Geely, who is undoubtedly one of the great automotive companies; this is something we have discovered first-hand through Volvo, Lotus and Polestar. Geely combines world-class engineering, striking design and outstanding value, and now this partnership allows Giltrap Group to bring their brilliant range of vehicles to New Zealand. The combination of our great team and our expertise as an automotive distributor and retailer will deliver the best Geely experience to Kiwi drivers,” says Giltrap Group Joint Managing Director, Michael Giltrap.

The official signing ceremony in Sydney was attended by senior executives and representatives from Geely Auto, including Evin Ye, Deputy General Manager of Geely Auto International Corporation, Business Director of Asia-Pacific Region, Li Lei, CEO of Geely Auto Australia, and Joint Managing Director of Giltrap Group, Michael Giltrap. This milestone event signifies a key achievement in Geely's global expansion, further solidifying its presence in the Oceanian market.

"New Zealand is crucial to our global expansion, and we are excited to strengthen our presence and partnerships here. The alliances we’ve established with a leading distributor like Giltrap Group will be pivotal to Geely’s sustained growth and reputation in the region," said Li Lei, CEO of Geely Auto Australia.

As a car maker focused on electrification and intelligent transformation, Geely also offers New Zealand customers a complete range of power trains, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid, range-extended, petrol, and fully electric vehicles. “To give our customers a genuine choice across every type of energy efficient vehicles has never been more important, as our country has unique requirements with the distances travelled and sometimes remote locations that Kiwis live or holiday in,” says Giltrap

During the event, Geely reaffirmed its long-term commitment to becoming a highly approachable and trusted brand in New Zealand, sharing its localised brand strategy and product launch plan with its partners. The Geely EX5, a mid-sized electric vehicle and the first model to enter the New Zealand market was showcased at the ceremony. The EX5 is slated for launch in 2025. “We are excited to bring models like the EX5 to the market. This vehicle represents our commitment to innovation and our dedication to meeting the needs of our local customers. We’re introducing new vehicles to enrich consumers' lives in New Zealand and building a brand that represents quality, innovation, and trust in these markets.” said Evin Ye from Geely Auto.

Geely unveiled plans to establish an extensive network covering showrooms across major cities and regional areas in 2025 to support its long-term commitment. Partnering with local expertise, Geely aims to deliver comprehensive one-stop services and inclusive mobility solutions without compromise.
