It only took Shaun a few minutes behind the wheel to dub this vee-dub the best Golf R yet…which makes it a contender for the best Golf ever.
Short of the 7.5 Clubsport and original GTI, the 8.5 is, at the very least, on the all-time Golf podium.
In keeping with the rest of the Golf range, 8.5 brings updated lights, bumpers and a bigger infotainment screen…but it’s the 13 BHP power bump and new 15-stage Dynamic Chassis Control. This combination delivers endless grip and go (unless you select Drift Mode), and the driving experience is surprisingly and delightfully analogue.
