Kiwis ready to shine in Australia and the U.S.
The ultra-competitive one-make Porsche Carrera Cup Australia series kicks off its 2025 season at Sydney Motorsport Park. Marco Giltrap returns for his second year, aiming to build on his performance from 2024. The young Kiwi has been sharpening his skills in the GT New Zealand Championship, where he currently leads the Open Junior Pro class, using the series as ideal preparation for his Carrera Cup campaign.
Joining him on the grid is Clay Osbourne, who made his Carrera Cup Australia debut in the final round of 2024 with McElrea Racing. After a strong showing in the 2024 Michelin Sprint Challenge, Osbourne is stepping up for a full-time Cup campaign with McElrea in 2025.
The 2025 Supercars Championship also gets underway at Sydney Motorsport Park. Matt Payne will be looking to continue his upward trajectory after an impressive 2024 season, which included a standout win in Townsville. The Penrite Racing driver is keen to establish himself as a consistent front-runner.
For Ryan Wood, 2025 is about building on the promise he showed as a rookie in 2024. With a year of experience under his belt, the goal now is to cement his place in the series and push further up the grid.
Meanwhile, Andre Heimgartner will be looking for more big moments like his emotional victory in Taupō last year. The 29-year-old has proven he can win, and he’ll be aiming to add more trophies to his cabinet in 2025.
Over in the U.S., Shane van Gisbergen returns to the NASCAR Cup Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway. His Daytona debut was plagued by bad luck, but the speed was there. Atlanta should provide a better opportunity—his best oval result so far came at this track, where he finished third in the Xfinity Series last year. With more experience and a strong track record at Atlanta, SVG will be one to watch.
From Sydney to Atlanta, it’s shaping up to be an exciting weekend for Kiwi motorsport fans.
