30 years after the debut of the first A4, Audi are relaunching the mid-sized model as part of the updated A5 range. The latest A5 models feature a new design and are available in both Sedan and Avant styles for the first time. In 2024, Audi restructured its naming system to differentiate between electric and combustion-engine models. Electric models now have even numbers, while combustion-engine models get odd numbers. As a result, the Audi A4 has been rebranded as the Audi A5. These new models, produced in Neckarsulm, come in four variants: A5 Sedan, S5 Sedan, A5 Avant, and S5 Avant, all built on the new Premium Platform Combustion (PPC).

Audi CEO Gernot Döllner on the new model family: “In tandem with the expansion of our all-electric portfolio, we are launching a new generation of models with efficient combustion engines. The Audi A5 family with its athletic design, completely new interior and future-proof electronics architecture will be the first. The advanced MHEV plus technology enables partially electric driving and therefore even more efficient driving.”

The new A5 models are larger and come with an impressive list of standard features. Inside, the focus is on the driver and passengers, with improved space for passengers and updated technology, including class-leading digital displays. The MMI panoramic display uses OLED panels and integrates seamlessly into the dashboard.

On the outside, the A5 family features a bold new design. The longer wheelbase, new wheel options, and low, sleek body give it presence no matter which trim level you choose. The Sedan has a coupé-like rear, while the Avant wagon’s roofline also slopes down to a lower profile rear-end. Up front, the wide, revised Singleframe grille and slim headlights make model instantly recognizable as an Audi.

The A5 will also introduce new lighting technology for Audi, including digital daytime running lights and second-generation digital OLED rear lights.

Under the bonnet are familiar Audi engines, including a 2.0 TFSI and a 2.0 TDI with 48 volt mild-hybrid technology. The S5 models continue to feature Audi’s 3.0-litre V6 TFSI engine, delivering 270kW to the quattro system driving all four wheels.

Local pricing and specification are yet to be announced.
