Polestar to debut first electric performance SUV, Polestar 3
The Polestar 3 boasts uniquely Polestar styling language, inspired by the stunning ‘Precept’ design study. Since its introduction the electric performance car brand, Polestar, has been on a meteoric rise both around the world as well as New Zealand, where the Polestar 2 outperformed original forecasts by more than 300%. That excitement for the brand is set to continue as an image revealed overnight of Polestar’s next model, the Polestar 3, promises even broader appeal with the company’s first SUV.
When fully revealed in October this year, the Polestar 3’s contemporary SUV body configuration is going to see Polestar’s entrance into one of the highest margin and growth segments in the automotive industry, particularly in the United States. Customers can expect to order Polestar 3 in initial launch markets from the day of the premiere and production is scheduled for early 2023.
Two production facilities will oversee global production with plants in USA and China producing the Polestar 3.
Transitioning away from the Volvo-esque design language of the Polestar 2, the new model looks distinctly Polestar, with styling cues from the brand’s stunning Precept design study. Well-proportioned with edgy frontal treatments we also spy an intriguing aerodynamic relief spanning the front of the vehicle. Meanwhile a floating roof design wrapping into a boot spoiler and the signature Polestar LED taillight treatments delivers a sleek and sporty profile for an SUV.
The car will be as smart as it looks. Polestar 3 will, over time, offer autonomous highway piloting powered by the best-in-class LiDAR sensor from Luminar and centralized NVIDIA computing power. At launch, Polestar 3 will feature a dual motor drivetrain and a large battery, with a range target of over 600 km (WLTP).
“Polestar 3 is the SUV for the electric age. Our design identity evolves with this high-end large luxury EV, with a strong, individual brand character,” says Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO. “With this car, we bring the ‘sport’ back to the SUV, staying true to our performance roots.”
“This is a major milestone for our company, one that boosts our growth trajectory and takes us into our next phase.” Ingenlath adds.
The Polestar 3 is a key milestone in the brand’s growth trajectory as the brand intends to launch a new car every year for the next three years. At the same time, Polestar have ambitions to increase their presence to at least 30 global markets by the end of 2023.
This supports Polestar’s plans to grow tenfold from global sales of approximately 29,000 in 2021 to approximately 290,000 by the end of 2025. Music to the ears of those who invest in Polestar when they list on the Nasdaq in a proposed business combination with Gores Guggenheim, Inc. (Nasdaq: GGPI, GGPIW, and GGPIU), expected to happen in the first half of 2022.
Certainly, if the successful introduction of the Polestar 2 to the market is anything to go by, and now the eye-catching aesthetics of the Polestar 3 revealed, the brand looks poised for some exciting times ahead.
