Special events will be held across the country on the 25th of February 2023 where Škoda dealerships will simultaneously launch the Enyaq iV to their regions, with pre-production SUVs onsite.

Škoda New Zealand have confirmed the much-anticipated Enyaq iV electric SUV will begin the brand’s increasing focus on electrification in New Zealand. The model will launch here early next year and will herald a significant milestone in the car brand’s transformation.

The Enyaq iV will feel comfortingly familiar in the tradition of Škoda’s SUVs with striking styling, spacious interior, high-quality materials and the latest technology but this is the first for the brand built on a modular platform specially developed for electric cars.

The vehicle points firmly at Skoda’s global advocacy of sustainability. The company is committed to using electricity from renewable sources and from 2030 and the brand’s Vrchlabi plant in Czech Republic is already leading the way, having been carbon neutral since 2020. Each Enyaq iV uses 13 kilos of recycled plastics, while the recycling rate for steel used in the body is 40% and aluminium 60%.

Both traditional and sports back body configurations will be available and the Enyaq iV Coupé offers even more emotion, sportiness and elegance to the Enyaq iV family, combining high functionality with emotive looks that are further accentuated by the dark tinted panoramic glass roof, which is a standard feature for the Coupé.

Also announced this week in Europe is the exciting Enyaq iV VRS model. While too early to confirm for our market, the VRS performance variants have traditionally done very well in New Zealand so we’d have to assume Škoda New Zealand will be looking closely at it as a future addition.

“Driving a Škoda is, and should always be, an adventure,” says (Gillard). “It’s the perfect vehicle for Kiwis as it’s as home on the highway or city street as it is on a remote gravel road. Its arrival is one step forward in our future sustainable development and the true start of our green fuel era.”

The Enyaq iV is one of three new all-electric vehicles launching here over the next four years with more to follow, and by 2030, electric vehicles are expected to account for 70% of Škoda’s vehicle sales in Europe alone.

Škoda NZ GM, Rodney Gillard says the company’s e-campaign is being accelerated.

“The Škoda brand is embarking on a decade of transformation, and for Škoda in NZ this begins with the launch of Enyaq iV, the introduction of our new brand mark and our updated corporate identity.

The brand has a global sustainability target of net zero carbon emissions by 2030 and is supporting this with an investment of €5.6 billion in eMobility and a further €700 million in digitalisation over the next five years.

“With the launch of Enyaq iV in 2023, we are aligning Škoda with our customers’ evolving needs and expectations – offering exceptional styling and an enhanced user experience. We know that Kiwi drivers, who are adventurers like us and demand smart technologies and functionality when it comes to their vehicles, will absolutely love the new Enyaq iV. It has all the comfort, space, and high specs our customers have come to expect, coupled with the benefits that come with an electric vehicle.

“As our customers evolve, so does Škoda. Our new identity encompasses our vehicle design, that is modern, smart and surprisingly simple,” (Gillard says).

The brand has notably gained momentum in New Zealand over the past five years. Thanks in no small part to winning the NZ Police tender in 2020 and growing its market share through an increasingly loyal customer base. During the transition phase to eMobility, the brand is strengthening its portfolio of highly efficient combustion engines, with new-generation Superb and Kodiaq models driving off the production line in the next two years.

Pricing and specification is to be confirmed in February, but interest in the new Škoda Enyaq iV can be registered at local Škoda dealerships or via skoda.co.nz/Enyaq iV
