With more and more buyers looking at different ways of enjoying the water, Wake / Surf craft made popular in the States are gaining popularity fast. Crownline’s Surf series is considered among the most accomplished in the category.

As a more diverse mix of customers approach the powerboat segment so too their needs expand beyond fishing, and Crownline’s Surf series is an outstanding option.

Among Crownline’s extensive Surf range is the E 235 and it really does showcase a departure from traditional boat specification in New Zealand. For a start, there is place to hold a fishing rod. That might seem sacrilegious to some Kiwis, but the Crownline E 235 Surf is absolute in its focus toward the perfect ski, surf or wakeboarding experience, not to mention relaxing and socialising in comfort. It’s a boat built around fun.

It's a design commonly known State-side as a ‘Deck Boat’ and that is apt, with the E 235’s generous forward lounging area thanks to the bull nose front, wide bow and the reduced gunwales of the boat that provide an ample seating and deck area up front. You can entertain, soak up the sun and bay hop at your leisure. And it’s a dual access design, so you have ladders forward and aft for an easy swim on a summer day trip.

The practicality of that hull design doesn’t compromise on the water performance, thanks to Crownline’s proprietary F.A.S.T hull design. The acronym stands for fin-assisted safe turn.

In the water, vented chines aerate the running surface to reduce drag, and the fin-like tabs keep those vents from producing handling quirks. The hull sticks in turns, is responsive to trim, and really airs out at speed. Chop back the throttle and you can feel the vents working as the boat glides along for quite some distance before settling off plane.

Combined with the warp around raked screen and the E 235 Surf offers a sports car characteristic, with a seated driving position (the squab can be adjust for standing if preferred), a car-like cockpit and stay flat handling in turns.

Crownline are master of optimising storage capacity on their boats and there is no shortage of space on the E 235, with under seating stowage and many cubbies around the boat you’ll never be lost for a place to stow your gear.

There is plenty of premium features aboard the E 235, with a booming audio system and multiple speakers throughout and a well appointed head, with shower and toilet cubicle.

As a specialist wake and surf boat, the E 235 is also fitted with Wake Worx surf tabs allow you to adjust and your preferred wave for all the riders in the family, it’s a smart system that also remembers profiles for easy management.

It also features a centre ballast system with two additional bags at port and starboard (for 1,500 lbs. of ballast) to ensure the best waves for all skill levels. And Volvo’s Forward Drive places the prop in front of the sterndrive’s lower unit, eliminating the safety concerns of surfing behind an exposed propeller.

A convertible transom seat back can be laid forward as a sun pad or latched in multiple positions to create a back-to-back rumble seat overlooking the huge rear swim platform, it’s a very useful feature for keeping visuals on your wake rider.

Powered by either a Volvo Penta FWD 300 CE with Eve controls or Volvo Penta FWD 350 HP, a top speed of 37 knots or 43 knots respectively is available.

The E 235 represents a shift in the different ways Kiwis are now using boats. If fishing isn’t the core focus, then the radically different design from traditional boats really makes the E 235 Surf an awesome day boat for enjoying the water.
