Just 15 minutes from Cardrona Alpine resort and Wānaka the 400 hectare country setting of Mt Cardrona Station village boasts, 30km of hiking/biking trails and full on-site property management services.

A master-planned Alpine village in the magnificent Cardrona Valley is coming to life on a sunny, wide open and secluded plateau high above the valley floor.

Mt Cardrona Station’s resort-style community is in a premium location with world-class New Zealand ski areas on the doorstep. Private yet not remote, it’s within easy reach of the lakeside lifestyles of Wanaka and Queenstown.

The unique village is a New Zealand ‘first’, with just 29ha of 400ha of station land being developed.  Buying into this $650m development comes with more than just a plot of land, as homeowners have exclusive ‘right to roam’ over the station with its 30km of world-class trails for walking, hiking and biking.

The idea of living in a European-style alpine village is just a dream for many snowsports and mountain lovers and now that dream’s coming true.

The village sits below Cardrona Alpine Resort and Soho Basin, just 12 minutes’ drive from the first lift. Snow Farm is across the valley, and Treble Cone and Coronet Peak are within easy reach.

The station shares this mountain with New Zealand’s most loved ski field. Cardrona Alpine Resort is home to the Southern Hemisphere’s most extensive terrain park, 465 hectares of trails and a new quad chair taking skiers and boarders into the epic terrain of Soho Basin.

When the precious ‘white stuff’ starts falling (locals call it white gold) it’s hard to imagine anything better than beating the crowds to the powder for a few glorious ‘first tracks’ before others have even made it up the road. It’s not quite ‘ski-in, ski-out’ but it’s as close as it gets anywhere in the country.

While ‘mountain basecamp’ for an adventurous outdoors lifestyle, the village also comes with world-class resort facilities.

The stunning Homestead building will be the cornerstone of the village, featuring The Adventure Centre with a gym and workout spaces, remote working and meeting facilities, day-long dining in its restaurant, hot pools, swimming pool, a stylish members-only Club Room and a ski and bike workshop. Ski area transfers will operate throughout winter.

The Homestead overlooks a tranquil tarn (best viewed from one of the outdoor hot pools) with a picture-perfect jetty jutting out into the clear water.

“What sets Mt Cardrona Station apart from any other development in the country is the scale of open spaces married with the quality of our urban and architectural designs, landscapers and facilities,” says director and owner Chris Morton.

“Connection to views, open spaces and natural vegetation is central to the design ethos, all the while interlacing strong references to Central Otago’s rich pioneering story.”

Whether you’d like a turnkey home and land package or the opportunity to create your own design, the four neighbourhoods currently available have an offer to suit everyone.

Houses are designed by renowned Leuschke Group Architects, with landscape design by Baxter Design. Each neighbourhood has been designed to maximise sun, privacy and panoramic views.

The latest village neighbourhood on the market is The Ridges, consisting of 26 sites being released in three stages. Smaller lots within The Ridges range from 300sqm to 570sqm and are suitable for low-maintenance, ski chalet-type properties.

Homeowners have the flexibility of buying ‘land only’ sites and designing their own home or using one of three concept designs from Leuschke Group and Baxter Design with up to five years to start construction after sections become available from February 2023.

The first stage available is Enright’s Ridge, proudly bearing the name of Tim and Bridget Enright who made their home here in the 1870’s and whose descendants still live and work in the valley, very much part of this small community. Enright’s Ridge sections are elevated to maximise sunshine hours and mountain and valley views, and back directly onto a reserve.

Renowned architect Colin Leuschke says concepts are designed to settle into the tussock-filled landscape. “We use as many natural materials as possible, while maximising views to the North and South.

“Our designs are reminiscent, in a contemporary way, of old Otago’s farmyards, sheep stations and mining camps, with their ‘lean-tos’ and pitched roofs.”

Other neighbourhoods released to market (many sections have been snapped up by buyers from around New Zealand and Australia) include the flagship Walter Little neighbourhood. Rich in heritage and boasting sweeping views, Walter Little is limited to just nine elevated sites of 800 square metres, allowing for large single-level homes. These coveted positions within the station’s northern precinct maximise stunning scenery while also being situated close to the conveniences of the village.

There’s now limited availability in the Little Meg neighbourhood, positioned next to the village, where front-row north-facing sites have already sold out.

The Pioneer neighbourhood of just 24 house, land and landscaping packages have also proved popular thanks to the range of home designs from Leuschke.

“It’s not often that alpine landscapes, adventurous living and luxurious homes go hand-in-hand, but we’ve put a lot of thought and time into making this work,” says Chris. “We’re keen on building a strong community at Mt Cardrona Station and taking our place in the growing community of Cardrona as a whole.”
