The Kia Sorento line-up of large seven-seat SUVs is among the most advanced and efficient on the market and it’s made all the more attractive with two Plug-in Electric Hybrid (PHEV) variants, of which the PHEV AWD EX - starting at $74,990 + ORCs - is eligible for a Clean Car Program rebate of $5750.

There has also been a range topping AWD Premium model added to the PHEV offering, which retails for $89,990 + ORCs.

The Sorento PHEV boasts an all-electric range of up to 57km: enough to complete a short daily commute on zero-emissions electric power alone, thanks to its high-capacity 13.8kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. The ability to drive short distances on just battery power enables this substantially sized seven-seater to deliver a stunning combined fuel consumption figure of just 1.6-litres/100km.

Under the bonnet, the Sorento PHEV is powered by a 1.6-litre T-GDi (Turbocharged Gasoline Direct injection) engine, producing 132kW and 265Nm peak torque, supplemented by a 67kW electric motor. The combined power of the turbo petrol engine and electric motors – 195kW and 350Nm torque in the PHEV – puts the plug-in Sorento into a class of its own.

Offering the best of both, the large SUV arrives with charging cables for overnight charging at home via a normal household plug, as well as a Type 2 cable and dedicated charge port for faster charging at a public kiosk.

The Kia Sorento PHEV benefits from a 5-year / 100,000km vehicle warranty programme, 5 years roadside assistance and a 7-year / 160,000km warranty on the high voltage drive battery.
