Endurance racing at Sebring is a motorsport institution, the 12 Hours of Sebring is without doubt one of the most iconic races in history, but never before in the tracks storied history has there been a 24 Hour race. And never before has Kiwi driver Brendon Leitch experienced the trials and tribulations of a 24 Hour race. Two new chapters will be written this weekend with the young Kiwi from Invercargill eyeing up a strong finish in the GT3 Huracan.

Giltrap Group backed Brendon Leitch will be taking the wheel of the Leipert Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan GT3 alongside co-drivers, Tyler Cooke, Dennis Fetzer, Sebastian Balthasar and Seb Morris.

Of the five driver line up Brendon is one of three semi professional drivers, Morris is the team’s professional driver and Cooke is an amateur.

While Brendon has been competing and testing with the Leipert Motorsport team in the British GT3 Championship, the unique challenges of a 24 Hour race will be an all new experience. One he can’t wait to achieve.

“I’m really looking forward to the challenge of my first 24 hour race this weekend, it’s been a goal of mine for a long time now! A massive thank you to my supporters for being by my side!” Leitch confirmed with 66 Magazine upon touching down in Florida.

Brendon found success at an early age racing karts when he was six before moving into Formula Ford as a teenager. He then made a spirited move to the Castrol Toyota Racing Series at the tender age of 16 where he raced alongside his brother.

With a passion for single seaters, Leitch contested six seasons of the Formula 1 proving ground where he won in almost every season against some of the world’s biggest names including Formula 1 drivers Lando Norris, Lance Stroll as well as Formula 2 and Formula 3 talent like Pedro Piquet, Jehan Daruvala, Artem Markelov. Not to mention fellow countrymen Liam Lawson and Marcus Armstrong.

This weekend, will be a valuable addition to Brendon’s skillset which will bode well for his future within Sportscar racing. A career path that is already off to a great start and will continue into 2022 as the Kiwi is confirmed as a driver for Leipert Motorsport in the GT World Challenge Endurance Cup next year.

The GT World Challenge Endurance Cup is considered the pinnacle of GT3 endurance racing and the experience gained on track this weekend will help Leitch prepare for 2022.
