Nov 25, 2020

Auckland New Zealand, 25 November 2020 – ŠKODA New Zealand is proud and honoured to have been selected as the preferred Prime 1 Patrol Vehicle for the New Zealand Police Force.

Since our introduction to the New Zealand market in 2003, ŠKODA has continued to grow in both reputation and market share. Today’s announcement that the New Zealand Police have chosen ŠKODA for such a vital role in our community marks a significant milestone for ŠKODA New Zealand.

The ŠKODA Superb vehicles selected by Police will deliver up to a 38.6 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions across the fleet. This is combined with a raft of features that will ensure the safety of both front-line officers and the public.

Globally, ŠKODA Auto is currently celebrating its 125th anniversary, making it one of the world’s oldest automobile manufacturers still active today. Throughout this journey we have transitioned from solely a vehicle manufacturer into a ‘Simply Clever’ company striving to offer the best mobility solutions for our customers.

This journey is now progressing at an exciting pace, with a range of plug-in-hybrid and fully electric vehicles soon coming to New Zealand. This is part of a ŠKODA Auto commitment to sustainability which includes a plan to reduce the total life cycle Greenhouse Gas Emissions of passenger cars and light duty vehicles by 30% compared to 2015 and become a carbon neutral company by 2050.

ŠKODA proudly joined the Volkswagen Automotive Group of companies in 1991, and has experienced accelerated growth ever since. In 2019, ŠKODA delivered 1.24 million vehicles to more than 100 countries from our 16 factories and 3000 distribution partners around the world.

ŠKODA New Zealand is proud to be part of the 100% New Zealand owned and operated Giltrap Group, a business that represents 17 of the worlds finest automotive brands as an importer, distributor and retailer.

We are extremely proud to join the growing ŠKODA Auto family providing more than 23,000 vehicles to police forces and emergency services around the world.

General Manager of ŠKODA New Zealand, Rodney Gillard believes that “This is a defining moment for ŠKODA New Zealand.  To be selected as the preferred vendor for the New Zealand Police demonstrates our ability for ŠKODA to offer quality and affordable mobility solutions for all New Zealanders. We look forward to playing our role in helping NZ Police keep our communities safe.”
